Teachers will communicate with parents verbally after first semester if they think a child may be retained.  Teacher will document that they have talked with the parents.

During spring conferences, the teacher will inform parents of retention possibility. If it is recommended that your child attend Pre-First and you choose not to follow the recommendation, the principal has the right to retain your child in Kindergarten.

If parents are in agreement, the teacher will prepare a retention form for the parents to sign.  These must be turned into the office by May 1st.

If parents disagree, a meeting will be set up with principal, counselor, parents, reading specialist, teacher, and student achievement specialist.  Decision will then need to be made by May 1st.

Retention will be at the discretion of the principal.  The principal can retain a student even if parents are not in agreement.
